Joan D. (Vaughn) Kennedy was born February 7, 1934 to James and Ruby (Ogle) Vaughn of Cherry County. Joan was one of three born that day.
She grew up in Cherry County were she met William Kennedy at a dance and was happily married for 46 years. To this union six kids were born: William, Betty, Sandra, Robert, Hazel and Ruth.
Joan lived all her life in Nebraska and made her home in several counties: Cherry, Garfield, Holt, Keya Paha and Rock. Joan helped do ranch work, cook, help others with cleaning and babysitting, as well as many other odd jobs for people. She would always help with baking cookies, pies and cinnamon rolls for different events.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents James and Ruby Vaughn; husband, William Kennedy; daughter, Sandra Kaup; brothers, Alvin, Larry and infant brother Harold; sister, Mildred Hannah; brothers-in-law, Ray Hannah and Virgil Burr.
Joan is survived by her children William Kennedy of Bertrand, Betty (Richard) Weller of Atkinson, Robert (Mary) Kennedy of Atkinson, Hazel (Carl) Chase of Springview, Ruth Kennedy (special friend Jesse Syfie) of Gregory, SD; son-in-law, Rodger Kaup; twin sister JoAnn (Vaughn) Burr; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was grandma to 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Graveside Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, May 29, 2021 10:00 a.m. at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Springview, with Pastor Jenice Epp officiating at the service. Memorials are suggested to the family in Joan’s name for future designation. Hoch Funeral Home of Ainsworth was entrusted with the service arrangements.
