John Robert Longcor, born March 22, 1945, and passed away Sunday, September 29. John is survived by his four children, Lyn Longcor of Rapid City, SD, Tina Longcor of Denver, CO, Michael Longcor of Hornell, NY, and Bill (Brittny) Longcor, children Averie and Jett of Valentine; he is also survived by sister, Loleta (David) Kvien of Sioux Falls, SD.
He is preceded in death by parents, Mike and Zeta Longcor and brother, Ralph Longcor.
John graduated from Valentine High School in 1963. He served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968, seeing combat in the Vietnam War, receiving a purple heart.
John was a lifelong cattle rancher and horseman, working on his ranch west of Mission, SD. He enjoyed raising cattle and riding horses. He was a fan of rodeo, riding barebacks when younger, calf roping and team roping throughout his life.
He greatly enjoyed the camaraderie and competition with other cowboys.
In his later years, his two grandchildren provided him great joy.
A graveside service was held on Monday, October 7 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Valentine. Sandoz Chapel of the Pines was entrusted with funeral arrangements.
