Kathy M. Horvath, 59

Kathy Marie ( Joseph) Horvath, age 59, was born in Valentine, March 16, 1965, to Kenneth Edgar Joseph and Laura Lee (Demeritt) Joseph Reed. She lost her battle with cancer June 13, 2024, in Ashville, NC surrounded by her friends and family.

Kathy is survived by her son, Kenneth Horvath of Mt. Croghan SC and second family Aunt Carol Olsen of Bellevue, Debbie Olsen Bose of Bellevue and her children, Christy Van Bibber and her children, and Carolyn Ekstrand and her children of Colorado, and Byron Olsen Jr., and his family of Sargent and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and many other family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, half siblings Rocky Lee and Colin Clay Fischer, and Uncle Byron Olsen Sr.

She is a member of the Ashville First Church of the Nazarene and has served in many roles from janitor to school board member and church board member.

A celebration of life was held in Asheville First Church of the Nazarene in Asheville, NC, July 6, 2024.

A graveside service will be held in Kilgore, at the Kilgore Cemetery as Kathy’s wish is to be buried beside her father at the Kilgore cemetery there.

This will take place at the cemetery August 24, at 10:30 a.m. Family and friends will have an opportunity to express their love and admiration for Kathy following the burial at a reception at the Joseph home nestled approximately nine miles south of the cemetery on the Niobrara River.
