LaVonne Dure’ Ham Valburg passed away on April 10, 2022 at Avantera in Clark, SD. She was 79 years old. LaVonne was born, August 11, 1942 to Lester and Margaret Ham in Pierre, SD. She grew up in the White River area. Her mother died in 1957. She married Floyd Eugene Valburg on June 5, 1960. Together they raised their family on the ranch near White River. In the late 1990’s they moved to Valentine, due to Floyd’s declining health. Floyd passed away in October, 2005.
In 2010, LaVonne moved to Stonybrook Suites in Watertown to be closer to family. She moved to Avantera Clark in July, 2014 due to declining health where she remained until her death.
In addition to being a homemaker, Lavonne did the books for the family farm. She was active in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in White River where served as a Sunday School teacher and many other functions. When not raising her family, LaVonne enjoyed gardening, flowers, crafts and especially making quilts and fork-fans. She and Floyd loved to travel.
She is survived by her sister, Judy Madsen of Hot Springs; her children, Dan (Cheryl) Valburg of White River, Lori Adams of Clark and Anita (Kevin) Naze of Clark; eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her death were her parents, her brother, Lee Ham and grand-daughter, Alex.
Funeral service was held on Thursday, April 14, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in White River. Burial followed at the White River Cemetery. Sandoz Chapel of the Pines in Valentine was entrusted with service arrangements.
