Marilyn D. Bishop, 91

Marilyn Bishop died peacefully on December 29,2021, at the family home in Valentine. Marilyn was born on March 8,1930, at home in Valentine to Guy and Mildred (Shelbourn) Bishop. She attended Valentine Public Schools and graduated high school in 1948. She attended Boise College in Boise, ID, graduating in 1951. She moved to Las Vegas, NV where she taught school for one year at Nellis Air Force Base, then worked at Central Communications until she retired.

She returned to Valentine in 2002 to care for her mother, Mildred. After Mildred’s death in 2010, she continued to care for her brother, Bill.

Marilyn’s passion was reading. She started early and was able to read until the last months of her life as her eyesight diminished. At age nine she read Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell. The book sparked a lifelong interest in the Civil War period. She had a keen intellect and memory. She was interested in politics and kept well-informed on current events.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Mildred Bishop, her brother, Bill, her brother-in-law, Gerald Grace, nieces, Kellie Irish and Marlys (Irish) Brindisi, nephew, Larry Irish and greatnephew, Isaac Brewer.

She is survived by her sister, Jacqueline Grace (now deceased), her children, Steve Grace of Valentine, Lance (Joyce) Grace of Medford, OR, Jerilyn (Dave) Morris of Lincoln, and Dan (Christine) Grace of Greeley, CO; sister, Jean (Lyle) McMindes of Grand Island, her daughter, Sean (Walter) Wasserburger of Grand Island, her daughter-in-law, Michelle Irish; sister, Sharon Bishop of Henderson; sister, Janet Bishop of Lincoln; her brother, Bob (Jeanne) Bishop, their children, Jamie (Riko) Bishop of Lincoln, and daughter, Robyn (Chris) Brewer of Ann Arbor, MI; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends are invited to an informal sharing of memories on Friday, May 6, at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel of the Pines. Private burial will be in Richland (Harmony) Cemetery.
