Melba Evelyn Bejot was born August 30, 1934 to Rudolph M. and Nellie E. (Kackmeister) Waits. She passed away, Saturday, April 22, 2023 at the Sandhills Care Center in Ainsworth at the age of 88. Melba lived her entire life in Ainsworth.
She graduated from Ainsworth High School in 1952. Melba married Francis E. Bejot on October 25, 1952 in Gregory, SD. To this union, four children were born: Cindy, Steve, Tom and Terry.
Melba liked to paint, do crafts, yard work, watch old western movies, but most of all playing bridge. She was a longtime member of the Ainsworth United Methodist Church and also long standing member of Bethany Chapter #113 Order of the Eastern Star.
Melba was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Francis who passed away in 2019; a brother, Eugene; and a baby brother at birth.
Melba is survived by her children, Cindy (Bejot) Price of Nashville, TN, Steve (Brenda) Bejot of Ainsworth, Tom (Mary) Bejot of Ainsworth and Terry (Susan) Bejot of Lincoln; her eleven grandchildren Kevin Price, Brett Price, Erin Rathe, Joel Bejot, Brent Bejot, Jessica Lentz, Jason Bejot, Nicole Francis, Alia Bejot, Sarah Christ, and Lauren Flowerday; 16 greatgrandchildren; a brother, Les Waits of Ainsworth; sisters-in-law Lorideen Larabee of Neligh, and Janet Bejot of Seward; along with nieces, nephews and other family members.
Funeral Services were held on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at the Ainsworth United Methodist Church. Pastor Jeanie Leeper officiated at the service. Music was provided by Linn Baxter with the congregation singing the hymns of “It is Well With My Soul” and “Amazing Grace.” Casketbearers were: Kevin Price, Brett Price, Joel Bejot, Brent Bejot, Jason Bejot and Mark Bejot. A Special Reading was given by Jessica Lentz. Memorials were suggested to the Ainsworth Women’s Club or the donor’s choice in Melba’s name. Interment was in the Ainsworth Cemetery under the direction of the Hoch Funeral Home of Ainsworth. Online condolences may be left for the family at www. hochfuneralhome.com
