Pamela Mae Sprenkle was born October 30,1949, to Wilbert A. and Virginia M. Sprenkle. Her brother, Scott W., joined the family six years later.
Pam’s birthplace and childhood home near Dallastown, PA, was an ideal setting for a tomboy who loved the outdoors. She enjoyed school throughout, and her teachers were always among her favorite heroes. Pam held a variety of jobs throughout her life, but spent the majority of her career in the biological sciences, after earning degrees at Bucknell (BA), Drexel (MS), and Creighton (PhD) Universities. She worked in academic research labs in Philadelphia and Omaha, and, prior to her retirement in 2014, served as Resource Management Specialist at the Niobrara National Scenic River in Valentine.
Pam always yearned for the open spaces of the west, and came to Nebraska in 1989. She acquired a modest acreage in Cherry County in 2003, which she happily shared with diverse wildlife and assorted cats and small livestock.
Pam enjoyed studying the language and culture of her Lakota neighbors, listening to Renaissance, folk, and bluegrass music, and learning about the mysteries of the universe.
Pam passed away August 21, 2024 of complications from cancer. No services were held at her request.
