Robert D. (Bob) Frederick of White River, SD, formerly of Grand Island, passed away Sunday June 2, 2024, in White River, SD.

On Saturday June 29, 2024, at 12:30 p.m., there will be a visitation followed by a luncheon at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Valentine. Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Andrew Utecht officiating. Interment will be at the Louie Krogman Family Ranch in White River, SD.

Bob was born June 19, 1934, in Winner, SD to Otto and Frieda (Heinert) Frederick. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith in August 1934 and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in 1950 in Valentine. Bob grew up in Martin, SD and Valentine.

In his younger years, Bob worked for some ranchers in South Dakota including The Nielsen Ranch and The Krogman Ranch in White River.

Due to his love of horses Bob, decided he would become involved in training and racing both Thoroughbred and Quarter horses. Bob mentored with world renown horse trainer D. Wayne Lukas. He raced and trained horses in California, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Tennessee, Louisana and Minnesota, and was involved in training horses for Elvis Presley, along with Dale and Chet Robertson.

In his later years, Bob loved to trade and sell antiques, collectables and horse tack, traveling all over the country. He enjoyed telling stories, playing Bingo and Yahtzee. He truly loved his family and was a true Cowboy. Bob will be sorely missed by many.

He is survived by daughters, Bertha Hullinger, Judy Moran, June Frederick, MaryAnne Adam, Shelly Chiasson and Cindy (Zig) Stankoski; sons, Billy Frederick, Pat (Sarah) Frederick, and Mike (Sonja) Beckwith; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; brothers, Dan (Bonnie) Petersen, Wendell ‘Pete’ (Alana) Petersen and Wayne Petersen; sister, Bea (Denny) Fiala; and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Otto Frederick; mother, Frieda Petersen; son Robert (Bobbie) Frederick Jr.; brothers, Ted and Leonard Frederick; and sisters, Laurain Turpitt, Dorothy Riley and Ella May Morrison.
