Robert L. Barnes 92

Robert Laverne Barnes, 92, of Norfolk, formerly of Lincoln, passed away July 27, 2024, at the Norfolk Veterans Home. Born in Neligh, in 1932 to Harold and Eva (Carpenter) Barnes.

Robert grew up in Valentine and graduated from Valentine High School, lettering in football, basketball, and track. After high school he joined the Navy and served from 1951 – 1955. He was a parachute rigger stationed in Japan and Whidbey Island, WA.

After his military service he received his undergraduate degree at the University of Nebraska where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He received a post graduate degree in physical therapy from Hermann Hospital in Houston, TX. Robert enjoyed a long and rewarding career as a physical therapist.

Survivors include sons, Todd (Marcie) Barnes of St. Charles, MO, Michael (Donna) Barnes of Lincoln, daughter Ame Barnes, Lees Summit, MO; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and brother Bill (Evelyn) Barnes of Springview.

Preceded in death by parents, wife, Dona; brother Charles (Marlene), Harold Jr., (infant); sisters, Betty (Henry Vandersypen) and Audrey (Keith) Kreycik.

Rosary was held at North American Martyrs Catholic Church, Lincoln Friday, August 2, 2024 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial followed at Calvary Cemetery. Memorials to Norfolk Veterans Home. Father Nathan Hall was the officiatiant.
