William V. Stroup, 77

William Vincent Stroup (known as Bill), eldest child of Claude Vincent and Margaret Mary (Donovan) Stroup, was born October 29, 1946 in Norton, KS. When Bill was a young boy, the family moved to Spalding, where he grew up with many people who were to become life-long friends. Bill graduated from Spalding Academy in 1965 and then joined the Army in 1966.

Bill was honorably discharged from the military in 1968, and on September 21 of that year, he was united in marriage to June Elizabeth Tiede at St. Michael’s Church in Albion. Bill and June lived in Omaha for several years, where Bill received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska, and then in Albion for a short time before they moved to Valentine in 1979. They lived in Valentine for 44 years and raised their two daughters, Lucina and Christina, there.

For many decades, Bill had a painting and sandblasting business called S&S Maintenance. In his spare time, he loved spending time with his family and dog JET. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as other outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, and canoeing. He also found great joy in traveling, woodworking, and reading. Throughout his life, he was involved with many organizations, including Ducks Unlimited and American Legion.

Bill is survived by his wife, June of Lincoln; daughter, Lucina Lurz and her husband James of Enumclaw, WA, daughter, Christina Stroup and her husband Reed Welke of Lincoln; two grandsons, Vincent James Lurz and Quentin Michael Lurz. Bill is also survived by brother, Robert and his partner Donna Karatko of Erie, PA; sister Mary Flakus and her husband Terry of Kansas City, MO; sisterin- law Eileen Tiede of Omaha; and brother-in-law Ron Johansen of Grand Island.

He is preceded in death by his parents, CV and Margaret Stroup, sister, Pamela Johansen, brotherin- law, Charles Tiede, parents-inlaw, Alfred and Mabel Tiede and Rose Tiede, as well as many other dear friends and relatives.

William Vincent Stroup passed away on May 18, 2024 in Lincoln.

A graveside service was held at Mount Hope Cemetery May 25, 2024 in Valentine.

Sandoz Chapel of the Pines in Valentine was entrusted with service arrangements.
