Sharon M. Bryant, 83

Sharon Marl is Bryant, 83, shed her earthly cares and gained her heavenly reward on Friday, July 28, 2023, passing peacefully in her home at Highland Park Assisted Living in Alliance. Sharon was welcomed into this world on February 7, 1940, by her parents Glenn E. and Marguerite L. (Peterson) Barnes at Valentine. She was the fifth of eight siblings who all grew up on the family ranch outside of Kilgore. Childhood years were spent with demanding work, much love, and laughter. Sharon attended high school at the University of Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis, where she met Floyd L. Bryant. He became her high school sweetheart and love of her life.

Gene A. McCormick, 89

Gene Arthur McCormick was born August 7, 1933 at his Grandpa and Grandma Bingham’s place near Springview. He attended eight years at Jackson School, one mile from home and walked to school.

Carol L. Schubauer, 78

Carol Lee was born to William and Violet Pierce on Saturday, July 29, 1944 in Rosebud, SD. She joined her siblings Billy, Ernie, Mavis ( Lehmann), Leah (Peed) and Bob at home in Hidden Timber. Carol loved to tell the story of how she attended preschool for five yeas before graduating! She would then tell you that her mom was the teacher and Carol went to work with Mom. Carol graduated from Todd County High School. She married Greg Schubauer on December 27, 1962. They created a home in Valentine. Their union was blessed with four children, Matt, Tracy, Mark and Toni. From there came 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren so far. Carol wore may hats in her years on Earth, including being the proud owner of Daylight Donuts. Carol loved her God and her church. She was in church almost every Sunday, often as a lay reader. Carol left this Earth on June 8, 2023 at Parkside Manor in Stuart.

Dale H. Lovejoy, Jr., 78

Dale Homer Lovejoy, Jr., (DH III), was born in Valentine, on August 7, 1944, to Dale Homer Lovejoy, Sr., (Irish) and Marie Ellen Hewitt Lovejoy. He was raised in South Dakota and Nebraska.

Larry L. Sanger, 83

Larry Lee Sanger was born September 10, 1939 in Bassett, to Eldon and Kathryn Zerelle (Petersen) Sanger. He passed away July 9, 2023 after a brief stay at the Rock County Long Term Care Center in Bassett.

Alice F. Smith, 80

Alice Faye Smith, 80, of Brownlee, Nebraska passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2023. She was a devoted wife, caring mother, and grandmother, and will be dearly missed.

Stanley K. Lucas, 90

Stanley Keith Lucas was born to Shirley “Sy” Lucas and Lena (Thomsen) Lucas at the family farm near Crookston, on July 27, 1932, joining a sister, Shirley. The family moved from farm to farm, so he went to 10 different grade schools. He graduated from Crookston High School in 1951. He worked at neighboring farms for Chicoine Implement, Luther Tractor, Watts Funeral Home based in Valentine, and a seismograph crew before enlisting in the Army during the Korean Conflict, when he was stationed at White Sands, New Mexico.

Dale D. Thompson

Dale Dewayne Thompson was born April 12, 1932, in Norden, to Mabel (Phillips) and Earl Thompson. He welcomed brother Gene in 1933 and sister Carol in 1936. The family made their home during his youth in Norden, Sparks, Ainsworth, and Valentine, and Sundance, WY.

“Tim” Harlan R. Stiefel, 84

“Tim” Harlan Ralph Stiefel, 84, of Denton, passed away Monday, June 12, 2023, at home. “Tim” Harlan, son of Ralph Frederick and Lydia Katherine (Epke) Stiefel, was born on July 19, 1938, in a birthing home in Cherry County.
