It’s no laughing matter that Valentine’s Main Event was a smashing success! The weather was cooperative and in the mid 30s. The pens were full, families out walking together, and kids letting off some steam as they ran from exhibit to exhibit.

The 2022 Cork Thornton Memorial Ice Fishing Tournament was held Saturday, January 29, with high temperatures reaching 57 degrees. The overnight low was a chilly 17 degrees.

Cherry County 4-H youth participated in the Nebraska 4-H State Outdoor and Indoor Archery competitions this fall and winter. The Outdoor Championship was held in September at Grand Island. Ayden Naslund received fourth in Youth Bowhunter Freestyle Targets. Dylan Naslund received first in Young Adult Bowhunter Freestyle 3-D and second in Bowhunter Freestyle Targets (tiebreaker by 1 X). Jenalee Garwood received fourth in Youth Basic 3-D and third in Youth Basic Targets. Jaeden Garwood received third in Cub Freestyle 3-D and fourth in Cub Freestyle Targets. Also competing from Cherry County was Tanner Olson.

Valentine’s Main Event, Heart City Bull Bash will be held February 12, 2022. Billed as the Heart City’s “Main Event,” the Bull Bash pays tribute to agriculture and is a winter festival that gives cattlemen the opportunity to look at livestock and bale feeders while the rest of the family takes other events and a tasty lunch.
