The Valentine Lions Club partners with The Salvation Army each year to raise money during the Christmas Kettle Campaign that runs from the day after Thanksgiving through Christmas Eve. The goal set for 2021 was $7,000 and thanks to 132 bell ringers along with many generous donors the goal was exceeded and $8,594 was raised.

Cherry County Clerk Magistrate Kay Morrison, of Valentine, submitted her notice of retirement effective December 31, 2021, after just over 29 years of service to the Judicial Branch. Kay started working at Cherry County Court as a records clerk in 1992, became Clerk Magistrate in Rock County in 1998 and then took the Cherry County Clerk Magistrate position in November of 2002.

Yes, it does seem as if a cloud has been hanging overhead for not only 2020, and 2021 but could march right into 2022 as well. What to do? Despair? Lament? Perhaps.

“We pledge our hands to larger service” in 4-H, and the holidays are a great time to give back to our communities. Cherry County 4-H members, Mady Bopp and Greyson Swan took this pledge to heart. They both applied skills learned in 4-H to raise money for Wreaths Across America.

Our community has known some trials these past 12 months. Sickness, accidents, death, and not just with people, but businesses as they struggle to keep it together with only a few employees who will show up and get the job done.
