Nebraska youth qualify for National High School Rodeo competition

The 2021 Nebraska State High School Finals Rodeo was held in Hastings, June 17-19 at the Adams County Fairgrounds. Over 150 high school rodeo athletes competed in 13 events and north central Nebraska was well represented.
Spain contributes to Track Athletic budget

At the State track meet, in 1956, Jerry Spain set the record for the 880 yard run at 2.00.3 for Valentine High School. This record has lasted for 65 years. At the 2006 Class Reunion Jerry challenged any student to break his record. A fun run was held to raise money for a scholarship and $1,847 was raised with the generosity of local business and individuals.
VHS students play New West All-Star Classic

Thursday, June 17, 2021, Isabelle Salters and Haley Hesse played in the New West All-Star Classic on the Southwest Conference Volleyball Team. They played at Minden High School and the team finished in second place.
Chaduza Cook-off celebrates 101st birthday of Valentine City Park

Valentine Chamber of Commerce Director, Dean Jacobs, certainly got the weather right for this celebration!!! With a summer that began as soon as winter ended in May, it was truly a pleasant day to spend at the Valentine City Park with all the smells of wonderfully prepared beef, chicken and ribs for the annual Chaduza Cook-off, Saturday, June 12, 2021.
Stars and Stripes celebrated 244 years

Flag Day is a time to revere our Stars and Stripes, our symbol of unity, pride, and solidarity. It is also a day that U.S. flags who have been faded, torn, and worn are put to rest in a dignified manner by the American Legion and Boy Scouts.
Cody Celebrates Circle C in God’s Country

The day was cool and cloudy, but the fellowship was warm and wonderful as it was apparent no one was about to take for granted the opportunity to gather. The 58th annual Circle C celebration was conducted in conjunction with the Cody-Kilgore Alumni this year. The weekend was concluded by the first Memorial Day program held at Prairie Lawn Cemetery by the American Legion and Auxiliary in many years. The theme was Circle C Days in God’s Country for a day full of activities for all. Organized by a group of committed community volunteers, Circle C started as a school fund raiser, but is now a day to celebrate the country way of life and raise funds for community projects.
