The Nebraska American Legion Teacher of the Year program serves to recognize dedicated and devoted individuals who, on a constant basis give so much of themselves on behalf of the youth of Nebraska. Selected School Teacher of the Year is Angela Anderson who teaches at Cody-Kilgore Unified Schools.

The swimming results for the AAU Junior Olympics held in Des Moines, IA July 30 - August 2 are as follows: Addy Valen - 9 and under girls - 8th 200 m Freestyle, 9th 50 m Freestyle, 10th 50 m Butterfly, 11th 50 m Freestyle and 100 m Freestyle, 12th 100 m Backstroke, and 16th 50 m Backstroke.

Every July, National Bison Month celebrates the American bison~the largest land mammal in North America~and honors one of the nation's greatest conservation success stories. An estimated 30 to 60 million bison once roamed the North American continent.

Grüezi (or Greetings) again from Switzerland! I have moved to a new host family, the Marti family, in Jens, a small village of about 600 residents in the Canton of Bern. My host family is a middle aged couple, Adrian and Cornelia. Adrian is a farmer, and Cornelia is a homeopathic animal practitioner. My host family develops and raises dairy heifers for local dairy farmers and grow a variety of crops, including wheat, corn, spelt, sugar beets, and sunflowers (for oil).

July 11, 2026 the Cherry County Rodeo Royalty held their pageant with six categories to compete from: horsemanship, written test, interview, modeling, impromptu questions and speech. Crowned Cherry County Royalty Queen was Calie Troyer, she is the 21-year-old daughter of Yvette and Kyle Troyer and proudly calls Hershey, NE, home.
