Sherwood Paul “Woody” Vosburg passed away on April 17, 2026, due to health complications. He was recently cared for at Sandhills Care Center in Ainsworth, NE. His daughters are deeply grateful for the kindness and care he received while he was there.
Woody was proud of his parents’ sacrifices in educating their three sons as first-generation college graduates. He became an Eagle Scout in 1966, played high school tennis, and performed in the top choir for the musical Kismet during his senior year. He earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Creighton University and spent over 40 years as a school counselor, primarily serving rural communities. Much of his career was devoted to working on the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota as an elementary school counselor.
Woody had a lifelong appreciation for the arts and athletics, performing with the Valentine Players community theater in the late 1990s and coaching high school tennis for many years. During retirement, he treasured his mornings with his “coffee club” buddies, playing dice until the final months of his life. Most recently, he spent much of his time reading his favorite books and going through old photographs with family. Woody was an avid tennis enthusiast, devoted Husker fan, golfer, reader, hunter, and photographer. He was famous for always picking the perfect birthday card. He cherished his trips out to Colorado to see his daughters and granddaughters. He had a special love for his “grand-dogs,” whose visit on his last birthday brought joy, comfort, and many laughs to the nursing home. He will be deeply missed.
