    Hunters reminded to donate to Hunters Helping the Hungry

    Hunters are reminded they may donate harvested deer to the Hunters Helping the Hungry program at seven processor locations in Nebraska. The participating meat processors are: • Amherst – Belschner Custom Meats • Norfolk – R&M Meats • North Platte – Kelley’s Custom Pack • Table Rock – Den’s Country Meats • Franklin – Franklin Locker • Ulysses – The Butchery • Lindsay – Melcher’s Locker Hunters pay no processing costs for deer donated to processors for this program.

    Drought has severe impact on crop yield in southeastern Nebraska

    According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, 76 percent of Nebraska is in severe drought and has been for several months. (Cherry County is divided into three categories of drought with extreme in the east and north west, severe for most all of the rest, and a small pocket to the west has moderate drought.)

    The wreath laying for Wreaths Across America is held annually on the second or third Saturday of December. Each of the balsam bouquets on each veterans wreath represent ten special qualities: Their faith in God, their love for each other, their strength, work ethic, and character, their honesty and integrity, their humility, their selflessness and modesty, their ambitions and aspir ations, their optimism for America, their concern for the future, their pride in their duties.
