    Halsey fire burns 18,930 acres, claims one life

    Awildfirethatexplodedinsizein drought-stricken central Nebraska has destroyed much of a youth campsite and led officials to evacuate a nearby village. The Bovee Fire was initially reported ashavingburnedaround100 acres early Sunday, October 2, 2022, in the Bessey Ranger District of the Nebraska National Forest, officials said.

    Volunteer firefighters continue learning the ropes

    “It’s not a matter of if...it’s a matter of when.” Knowing this, the Valentine Volunteer Fire Department has been training all summer on rope rescue. “We’ve been training to better prepare ourselves for some of the potential rescue situations that may arise,” said Assistant Chief CourtneyFowler.“Ourconcernhas to do with all of the canyons that surround Valentine and the area.” There are hikers and hunters along with those who use the hills simply to recreate, golf, or enjoy the rivers.

    Badgers take fourth in Southwest Conference play

    Tuesday, September 27, the Lady Badgers traveled to McCook where Southwest Conference golf was played. They took fourth place out of nine teams and brought home two medals.

    The Valentine Lady Badgers hosted a triangular, Tuesday, September 27, 2022 and welcomed North Central and Cody-Kilgore. The Lady Badgers won in two sets over the Cowgirls 25-12, 25-13.

    Badgers play hard, lose to Gordon-Rushville

    “Our kids battled and played extremely hard for all four quarters. Us coaches saw a lot of really good things from a football aspect in all three facets of the game but we have plenty of things that we need to clean up. We are excited for another opportunity to fix these things on Friday in Hershey,” said Coach Ian Bish.
