    Update on the IN VALENTINE project

    As of July 26, 2022, next year’s work has started. When this project was let for bidding, the construction scheduling had a start date of April 1, 2022 with a contract time of 215 working days. Phase 3 work was scheduled to be completed in 2023. Today is working day 87.

    Dylan Naslund represents Nebraska 4-H at National Shooting Sports Competition

    Dylan Naslund from Cody, represented Nebraska 4-H at the National 4-H Shooting Sports Competition in Grand Island, the week of June 27, 2022. Dylan is the son of Adam and Janell Naslund, and Adam is the archery shooting sports instructor for Cherry County 4-H. Dylan was a member of the Nebraska Recurve Archery Team for this year’s competition, coached by Jeff Goble.

    10 years after 2012 Niobrara River Valley Fires: What has changed in wildfire prevention and response?

    “The 2012 fire season opened the eyes of a lot of firefighters, fire departments, members of the state and the public to the importance and need of being prepared, staying vigilant, trainings and funding. We don’t have a big fire season every single year, but people realized that when we do, these things are crucial. The 2012 fires were very educational for everyone,” said Justin Nickless, Fire Management Specialist at the Nebraska Forest Service and Assistant Chief for the Ainsworth Volunteer Fire Department.

    Burn Ban notice for Cherry County

    A burn ban has been issued for Cherry County effective July 14, 2022. The ban primarily applies to permit required open burns such as brush piles, leaves, etc. All burn permits will remain suspended until the burn ban has been lifted.
