    Valentine Rookie team finishes in second

    The Valentine Rookie 8-U team wrapped up their season with a 7-4 record and a second place finish at the Rosebud League Tournament in Winner, SD. The tournament started with a bang as Valentine played Lyman.

    Happy 248th birthday America! And what a beautiful day to celebrate! Gentle breezes blew comfortable temperatures for the parade which began at 10:00 a.m., then over to Badger Memorial Field where a record number of guests participated in the national Let Freedom Ring celebration of the reading of the Declaration of Independence. At the Cherry County Fairgrounds was the God and Country Music Festival making its debut with music and poetry featuring lyrics about God and Country.

    Raffle benefits Quilts of Valor and veterans

    Cherry County 4-H teamed up with Leo Brinda Unit #90 American Legion Auxiliary again this year to conduct a quilt raffle to raise funds for the Quilts of Valor community service project. Over 100 quilts have been awarded to area veterans over the last few years and the raffle helps participants cover the costs of fabric, batting, quilting services, and other supplies.

    8U Rookies Runner-Up

    The Valentine 8U Rookies team ended their 2024 season with a 7-4 record and a second place finish in the 16th annual Bob Haley Memorial Rookies Classic in Winner, SD June 29 - 30. The Rookies beat Lyman on Saturday with a score of 1-0 with a walk off double by Kade Arganbright bringing in Beckett Walking to score the one run for Valentine.

    Girl Scouts earn Silver Award

    It’s an honor to be a Girl Scout and even more so when working hard and reaching a goal. Three local young ladies worked through their Bronze Award, and continued on, recently earning their Silver Award for work done at Ecology Park.

    Remembering those who served

    The sun had already set Sunday night, yet there was still a glow in the sky, and shadows were long and deepening. A vehicle pulled up to the newly set memorials in front of the Cherry County Justice Center and a lone person got out.
