Topeka – Brendan Whipple of Nenzel was one of 20 young Kansas Livestock Association (KLA) members from across the state to graduate from the Young Stockmen’s Academy (YSA) November 22, 20204 during the annual KLA Convention. Merck Animal Health partnered with KLA to host members in their 20s for a series of four seminars throughout 2024. This class, the eighteenth since the beginning of the program, brings the total number of YSA graduates to 355.

Valentine’s Main Street was the backdrop for the 10th annual Heart of Christmas Celebration. Festivities started in the afternoon at Security First Bank with a visit with Santa Claus and his reindeer.

Most local residents are aware of the story of Edward Day Cohota (est. 1841-1935), a Chinese American man who fought in the Civil War, served 30 years in the U.S. Army, married, and then made a life in Valentine, NE, and Hot Springs, SD. He is buried at Mount Hope Cemetery in Valentine.
